How to Become an Executive Coach? With Executive Coaching Certification Programs

What is executive coaching?

Executive coaching is partnering with clients to help them lead the team or manage their employees more effectively. Executive coaches help their clients gain clarity on how they can lead or manage their team, set goals, and align those goals to achieve them systematically. Executive coaching is different than counseling and psychotherapies. Coaching is not about suggesting or giving advice on what they should do. Instead, it is about realizing inner potential and creating self-awareness.

When it comes to coaching higher-performing leaders and teams, Executive Coaching is one of the most desired facilitation processes. But to coach such high potential talents, you should at least possess an executive coaching certification or a professional coach with experience in coaching leaders and teams.

What do you learn in Executive Coaching Course?

Coach Transformation Academy offers an Executive Coaching course as a specialization course. Being an ICF and EMCC accredited coach training provider, Coach Transformation Academy supports you in leveraging your strengths and experiences to become an expert in Executive Coaching.

Constructive feedback, interpersonal relations, optimizing productivity, self-awareness, accountability, goal settings, emotional intelligence, and many more essential topics are covered in Executive Coaching certification. In addition, executive Coaches have a massive influence on leaders when hired. Hence, it’s critical to gain proper coach-specific training (preferably from ICF/EMCC/AoC accredited) to ensure that they are fully compliant with Coaching Ethics and can coach rather than causing upheavals.

Who are the typical clients of executive coaching?

From executive vice presidents to Department Heads and CEOs, every person has unique responsibilities and job roles. Executive Coaches based on their niche and expertise act as sounding boards and facilitator for these executives. For instance, some leaders hire executive coaches to help their managers develop and enhance strategic planning abilities.

Increasing engagement, constructive goal-setting, collaboration, performance-based coaching, rapport-building, there can be many applications to executive coaching, depending on the coach’s experience and expertise.

However, it’s highly recommended to hire executive coaches with a verified executive coaching certification as coaching is often interchangeable with counseling or therapy, which is entirely different. People may not realize it, but a coach without proper accreditation and formal training can damage more than anticipated.

Steps to become a certified Executive Coach

Coach Transformation Academy offers one of the most experiential and world-class Executive Coaching programs worldwide. We’re an ICF (International Coaching Federation) and EMCC (European Mentoring & Coaching Council) accredited coach training provider.

Our Executive Coach certification training spans around 6 months. Before you gain specialization in Executive Coaching, we recommend starting with coach-specific training.

As ICF and EMCC provide only predefined credentials (and not specifically Executive Coaching), you should first start getting either of these credentials to establish legitimacy as a coach. Then, you must complete a coach-specific training program/course accredited by ICF or EMCC depending on the credential level you wish to apply to.

  • Coach-specific training: A coach-specific training program or course accredited by ICF under ACTP, ACSTH, or CCE (portfolio) pathway. EMCC awards EQA (European Quality Award), an internationally recognized accreditation for mentoring/coaching training providers. So, make sure to opt for an ICF or EMCC accredited course. Coach Transformation Academy is both ICF and EMCC accredited, which means you can earn both credentials on completing training with us.
  • Mentor Coaching: While training, you must also complete at least 10 hours of Mentor Coaching if opting for an ICF credential. Mentor Coaching comprises Group Coaching and One to One Mentoring. Coach Transformation Academy offers 10 hours of Mentor Coaching with expert coaches and ICF-MCC.
  • Coaching Experience: Coaching experience is the number of hours you accumulate while coaching. These hours should be paid, and some can be pro-bono. Once you collect a certain number of hours (varies for each credential), you can then apply to ICF or EMCC for credentialing.
